Aggie soccer vs. Florida

GAINESVILLE, Fla. – The No. 12 Texas A&M Aggies had a five-match winning streak snapped Sunday as they dropped a 3-1 decision to the Florida Gators in Southeastern Conference play at Dizney Stadium.

A second-half charge came up short for the Aggies (9-2-2, 3-1), who peppered the unranked Gators (8-4, 4-0) with 12 shots in final 45 minutes, including five shots-on-goal. A&M was only able to muster one goal, a strike from Taylor Ziemer in the 74th minute.

The Aggies played catch-up for most of the match after Florida’s Madison Alexander converted on a penalty kick in the seventh minute. Vanessa Kara added another goal in the 17th minute, chipping a shot over the charging Shantel Huton to take a 2-0 lead into the intermission.

Florida made it 3-0 in the 67th minute on a Kara’s second goal, a header.

The Aggies will host Alabama at 6:30 p.m Thursday.
