The Eagle's high school football player of the week poll is back for Week 3. Local teams had success through the air this week, as four of the five nominees are quarterbacks or wide receivers. Nominees are selected by The Eagle sports staff based on coach submissions. Vote for your favorite player from now until 4 p.m. Monday.
Bryce Steel, Brazos Christian, sr., QB
Steel amassed over 150 passing yards in the first quarter alone and finished with 315 yards and five TDs on 18-of-24 passing as the Eagles shut out KIPP Houston 54-0 on Friday night.
EJ Ezar, Rudder, soph., QB
Ezar completed 10 of 17 passes for 194 yards, including a 76-yard TD pass to junior Keithron Lee, helping lead the Rangers' to a 41-24 win over Navasota, their second comeback win in as many weeks. Ezar finished with three total TDs.
Kesean Raven, Rockdale, jr., WR
Raven was key on both sides of the ball for the Tigers, catching four passes for 136 yards, including 74- and 43-yard touchdown receptions, and returning an interception 39 yards for another TD in Rockdale's 45-13 win over Lexington.
Kobe Young, Cameron, sr., WR
Half of Young's receptions were touchdown catches as the Yoemen senior caught six passes for 138 yards and 1-, 23- and 58-yard TDs in Cameron's 68-34 blowout of Gatesville.
Traevon Thompson, College Station, sr., LB
Thompson tied a school record with 23 tackles, sacked Huntsville QB Matthew Southern three times and added three quarterback pressures as the Cougars upset the No. 4 Hornets 29-13 on Friday night.
