PFLUGERVILLE — Senior Daylonn McCowan rushed for 117 yards and three touchdowns to lead Brenham to a 38-21 District 13-5A Division II victory over the Pflugerville Weiss Wolves, earning the Cubs their first district championship since 2013.
Brenham (8-2, 6-1), which was upset by Bastrop two weeks ago, bounced back with victories over Leander Glenn and Weiss (8-2, 6-1) to share the district crown with the Wolves. The Cubs earned the top seed over Weiss by scoring the game’s last 24 points. McCowan, who had 29 carries, scored on runs of 2, 4 and 19 yards.
The game was tied at 21 after three quarters. Victor Mendoza hit a 20-yard field goal early in the fourth quarter, and Brenham scored two touchdowns after Weiss fumbles.
Brenham quarterback Garrison Weiss rushed for 91 yards on 15 carries with a touchdown. He also completed 11 of 17 for 128 yards with a touchdown to Carson Draehn.
