The 24th-ranked College Station Lady Cougars defeated the Georgetown East View Patriots 25-22, 25-22, 22-25, 25-13 in Class 5A area playoff action Friday night in Cameron.

The Lady Cougars (32-12, 14-0 in 19-5A) advance to play Cedar Park in regional quarterfinal action at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday at Hearne.

Zoe Peterek led College Station with 18 kills and Brielle Warren added 10. Kate Georgiades had 15 digs, and Ana De La Garza had 13. Macy Nugent had 25 assists and Abby Peterek 18. Sophomore Kiera Herron had three aces.

“Tonight was really a hard-fought battle,” College Station coach Kacie Street said. “East View’s defense was very good. They were solid in blocking. A lot of it came down to persistence on our part.”

Herron helped the Lady Cougars seize momentum en route to their 16th straight victory.

“We were down in set two by more than 10 points,” Street said when Herron came up with some big serves. “It shifted momentum. We went more on offense, controlling the tempo. It was a hard-fought battle on a lot of fronts.”

College Station took a 2-0 match lead, but East View bounced back to win the third set. Herron’s serving helped College Station start strong in the fourth set as the Lady Cougars finished off the victory.

“That was a big part of our offense really getting going,” Street said.

East View, coming off its first playoff victory in school history, ends at 27-19.

“We played them earlier in the year, and they have improved so much,” Street said. “It was a fast tempo, a good match.”
