Texas A&M’s 47-28 loss to Alabama knocked the Aggies from the Top 25 rankings.

A&M, which was 21st in the coaches’ poll and 24th by the Associated Press, had been ranked in 10 straight polls. The Aggies cracked  the Top 25 after last year’s 74-72 seven-overtime victory over LSU.

A&M was the only two-loss team in the rankings last week. This week there’s three, No. 15 Texas, No. 23 Iowa and No. 25 Washington.

A&M is tied with Central Florida for 35th in AP with one point and the Aggies are 34th by the coaches with 14 points. Only one person voted for A&M among the 61 AP voters. The coaches don’t release details of their voting.

A&M is not the highest-ranked three-loss team ranked by AP. Southern Cal and South Carolina, both 3-3 a la the Aggies, are tied for 33rd with one more point than the Aggies.

A&M is the highest-ranked three-loss team by the coaches.

South Carolina, which upset Georgia in overtime, expects freshman quarterback Ryan Hilinski to play this week against Florida. Hilinski hurt his knee against Georgia and didn't return to the game, but coach Will Muschamp told South Carolina beat writers Sunday it was nothing major.

The A&M-South Carolina game on Nov. 16 at Kyle Field looked like a pivotal game when the season started, then Carolina lost senior quarterback Jack Bentley, the league’s most experience quarterback to a season-ending injury. Hilinski has been impressive and Saturday’s upset coupled with Sunday’s good news that his injury isn’t serious adds value to the game.

Jerry Palm projects A&M to play Baylor in the Texas Bowl. He previously had two SEC teams in the College Football Playoff, but has added Ohio State in place of Georgia, joining Alabama and Oklahoma.

I kept Clemson atop my AP ballot. I had the Tigers there from the start and believe they’ve done enough to hold the top spot.

A lot of people jumped on Alabama’s bandwagon when Clemson had to stop a two-point conversion to beat North Carolina. I understand why. Alabama is pretty impressive, especially on offense. But Saturday’s game was its first against a ranked team and time will tell if A&M indeed is a Top 25 team.

This week everyone loves LSU, which also was understandable. The Tigers might be the best team in the country right now. Might be. They’ll have a chance next month to pass Alabama.

I have Georgia ninth and Notre Dame 10th. That’s contrary to most. Both have one loss and Georgia beat Notre Dame. It was at Georgia, so you could make the case Notre Dame would win the rematch, especially if it were at Notre Dame. The way Georgia played against South Carolina and Notre Dame against Georgia, I’d say both will lose again.

I voted Appalachian State No. 24 and Tulane No. 25. Most don’t know that Appalachian State won at North Carolina last month. It’ll be at South Carolina next month.

The Green Wave  didn’t crack the poll but are on the verge of being in for the first time since 1998.  Tulane will have a chance to make the next poll since it plays Memphis, which had been ranked until losing to Temple which cracked the coaches’ poll.
