BATON ROUGE, Louisiana – LSU senior quarterback Joe Burrow threw for 352 yards and three touchdowns to lead the top-ranked Tigers to a 50-7 thumping of Texas A&M on Saturday at Tiger Stadium in Southeastern Conference action.
Burrow led LSU (12-0, 8-0) to scores on its first five possessions for a 31-0 halftime lead as the Tigers outgained A&M 324-40.
The Aggies (7-5, 4-4) avoided a shutout on a 1-yard touchdown run by freshman Isaiah Spiller late in the third quarter.
LSU, which dropped a 74-72 seven overtime game to the Aggies a year ago, needed only six plays to take a 7-0 lead on Clyde Edwards-Helaire’s 5-yard run. Burrow threw a 12-yard touchdown pass to Justin Jefferson and a 78-yarder to Ja’Marr Chase to make it 21-0.
A&M quarterback Kellen Mond, who hadn’t had a turnover in 18 quarters, threw three interceptions and completed only 10 of 30 for 92 yards. Spiller ended with 66 yards on 11 carries as the Aggies could muster only 169 yards on 60 plays. LSU piled up 553 yards on 75 carries.
West winner LSU will play East winner Georgia (11-1, 7-1) for the SEC title next Saturday in Atlanta. A&M will find out what bowl it will play in on Dec. 8.
