CROCKETT — Crockett senior Jordan Bedford threw for 387 yards and five touchdowns to lead the Bulldogs to a 60-33 victory over the Franklin Lions in a battle for second place in District 11-3A-I.
Bedford completed 13 of 18, averaging 21.5 yards per attempt in helping Crockett (8-2, 5-1) take second behind Diboll (10-0, 6-0). Franklin (6-3, 4-2), the defending champion, will be the third seed for the playoffs.
Crockett took a 20-0 lead as Jakecian Jones scored on runs of 7 and 2 yards sandwiched around a 47-yard touchdown reception by Tyvondrick White. Franklin pulled within 27-14 on Datron Dixon’s 6-yard run late in the first half, but Bedford scored on a 1-yard run with 8 seconds left in the half to push the lead back to 34-14. He opened the second half with a 58-yard touchdown pass to Cristian Brice with just 13 seconds elapsed. Brice also caught a 73-yard touchdown in the first half.
Franklin lineman Cody Duewall scored on a 71-yard fumble return with 38 seconds left when Crockett snapped the ball over the holder on an attempted field goal.
Franklin’s Seth Spiller rushed for 135 yards on 15 carries, scoring on a 9-yard run.
