ROCKDALE — Rockdale quarterback Jace Robinson and running back Cam’ron Valdez combined for 312 total yards and six touchdowns to power the Tigers to a 52-28 victory over the Lago Vista Vikings in District 10-3A-I play Friday night.
The 175-pound Valdez had 214 yards rushing on 20 carries, scoring on runs of 1, 53 and 55 yards. Fellow junior Robinson completed only eight of 19 passes for 102 yards, but threw touchdowns of 5 yards to Kobe Mitchell, 23 yards to Anthony Dansby and 31 yards to Ross Loth as the sixth-ranked Tigers (6-0, 2-0) leaned on big plays to please the homecoming crowd.
Mitchell had a 61-yard kickoff return to make 24-17 after Lago Vista (5-2, 2-1) had scored 14 unanswered points. Mitchell’s return was the first of five unanswered touchdowns by the Tigers for a 52-14 lead.
Lago Vista ran 30 more plays than Rockdale and had a 385-317 edge in total offense as quarterback Buck Pounds had 133 yards rushing on 31 carries with a touchdown and completed 8 of 21 for 85 yards with two scores. Logan Parsons rushed for 106 yards on 13 carries with a touchdown.
It was the second straight big games for Valdez and Robinson. Valdez had a five-touchdown, 175-yard rushing performance in an 80-6 victory over Manor New Tech in which he had only six carries and Robinson threw for 285 yards and four scores.
