BURTON — The Shiner Comanches used a balanced attack to power their way to a 49-0 nondistrict victory over the Burton Panthers in a matchup of Top 10 teams Friday night.
Shiner (3-0), ranked second in Class 2A Division I, had five players rush for at least 47 yards, led by quarterback Tyler Palmer who had seven carries for 88 yards and a pair of touchdowns. Palmer also completed 3 of 4 passes for 97 yards and a touchdown.
Palmer opened the scoring with a 21-yard touchdown run just 1 minute, 41 seconds into the game. After Zane Rhodes scored on a 12-yard run, Palmer threw a 12-yard TD pass to Cole Patek for a 21-0 lead.
Burton (2-1), ranked seventh in Class 2A Division II, mustered only 127 yards. Demarcus Wilson had 19 carries for 36 yards and Jackson Kalkhake added 28 yards on five carries.
Shiner’s Doug Brooks had 80 yards rushing on five carries with a 38-yard TD run, and Donyai Taylor had 72 yards rushing on five carries with a 28-yard TD run for a 28-0 halftime lead.
