Bowlers compete at state tournament: PORT ARTHUR -- The Keglers competed at the 47th Annual Knights of Columbus State Bowling Tournament at the Mega Play Bowling Center in Port Arthur on April 16-17.

The Bryan Knights #1 bowled a 2764 to place third in the team event. Team members are Deryl Emola, Albert Morales, Brandon Scamardo and Bubba Haney. In the doubles event, Manuel and George Lopez posted a 1441 to place fourth.

In singles, Anton Luza placed seventh with a 749. Jack Lemmon (739) was 11th and Haney (724) was 13th.

For all events combined, Lemmon placed third after a combined 2187, Haney (2117) and Joe Scanlin Jr. (2094) placed sixth and seventh, respectively. Joseph Sodolak (2093) was ninth, Manuel Lopez (2092) was 10th and Luza (2065) was 16th.

Cacey Queens Tournament hosts bowlers: PORT ARTHUR -- Local bowlers competed at the Cacey Queens Tournament at Mega Play Bowling Center in Port Arthur on April 16-17.

In the team event, Family Affair placed second after bowling a 2551. Team members are Gladys Beasley, Stephanie Fazzino, Kim Payne and Charlene Lusk. Marks A Lot -- Linda Scamardo, Millisa Boatcallie, Pat Scanlin and Willie Ann Luza -- posted a 2528 to take fourth.

Boatcallie also placed fifth in the singles event after bowling a 690 series. Lusk and Beasley had a combined 1304 to place fifth in doubles. Scanlin had a combined 1964 in all events to take ninth overall.

BASEBALL

Brenham Camp being held in June: BRENHAM -- The Brenham baseball camp is set for June 13-16 at Brenham High School.

The basic camp for ages 6-13 will be held from 9 a.m. to noon daily. The camp includes instruction on hitting, defensive positions and throwing mechanics. Cost is $150.

The pitching camp for ages 6-15 will be from 12:15 to 1:15 p.m. June 13-15. The camp will focus on the mechanics of the pitching motion, defensive drills and the art of pitching. Cost is $50.

BASKETBALL

Texas A&M camps holding registration: Registration is open for the annual Texas A&M basketball camp, to be held this summer on campus.

Position skills and team play will be taught with an emphasis on individual improvement in the basketball fundamentals of shooting, dribbling, passing and defense. Camps are for boys entering fourth through 12th grades who are looking to improve their overall game.

Three individual camp sessions are being held June 5-8, June 26-29 and July 24-27. Cost is $340 per session for day campers and $420 for overnight campers.

A high school team camp is available from June 24-26 at a cost of $150 per player.

21st Century Skills Program being held: NAVASOTA -- The Basketball Camp for Champs, part of the 21st Century Skills After-School Program, is June 6-9 at Navasota Junior High School gymnasium.

The free camp is 8 a.m. to noon each day. Students who will be in grades four through eight in the fall will receive on-court instruction and lessons in goal setting, preparing for opportunities and working as a team.

Instructors include former college and professional basketball player Greg Manning and Olympic Gold Medal basketball player Lea Henry.

Aggie women's basketball camp holding registration: Registration is now open for the Texas A&M women's basketball camp, to be held this summer on the A&M campus.

An individual camp for players in grades 5-12 will be held June 12-15. Cost is $385 for a resident camper and $300 for a commuter camper.

Two position camps for players in grades 7-12 are being offered June 8-10 and June 21-23. Campers will be able to choose the position they want to work on. Cost is $275 for a resident camper and $225 for a commuter camper.

A team camp for players ages 12-18 will be held June 17-19. A minimum of seven players from a team is required. Cost is $185 for each resident camper and $140 for each commuter camper.

Compassionate Friends to host charity event: The Robertson County chapter of the Compassionate Friends will be holding a charity golf tournament June 25 at Hearne Municipal Golf Course.

Entry fee is $60 per person ($45 if you have your own cart) for the four-player scramble. Hole sponsorships available for $100. Mulligans will be available, and food and drink will be provided.

The tournament will begin with an 8 a.m. shotgun start. Awards and prizes will be given to top finishers with longest drive and closest-to-pin contests.

RUNNING

College Station track club starts June 6: The College Station summer track club will practice from June 6 to June 23.

Runners who were born between 1994 and 2000 will practice 8-9 a.m. while runners born between 2001 and 2006 will practice 9-10 a.m. Practices are held Monday through Thursday each week at College Station Middle School. Two local meets will be held.

Bryan-Rudder Softball Camp begins June 27: The Bryan-Rudder Softball camp is June 27-June 30 at the Bryan High softball complex.

Cost is $60 for early registration. When registering two players from the same family, cost is $50 each.

Childcare is available from 7:45 to 8:30 a.m. each day.

STRENGTH & CONDITIONING

A&M to hold two camps: The Texas A&M strength and conditioning staff will direct two camps this summer in the Netum Steed Varsity Strength Facility.

The camp will meet Monday-Wednesday-Friday from June 6 to July 1 for two hours each training session. The camp is designed to give a solid foundation in the areas of speed, agility, power, strength, conditioning and flexibility. The camp is for boys and girls in grades 7-12 and costs $250.

The speed and agility camp will meet from 6 to 7:30 p.m. on July 11-12 and 14-15. The camp focuses on the fundamentals in sprint and speed mechanics and fundamentals in acceleration and deceleration techniques. The camp is open to boys and girls from grades 6-12. Cost is $100.

Rudder holding strength camp: Rudder High School is holding a strength and conditioning course for athletes in grades seven through 12 this summer. The course, for boys and girls, will run Mondays through Thursdays.

Beginning Monday, the evening session will be 5-7 p.m. From June 6 to July 21, there will be two sessions each day: 7:30-9:30 a.m. and 5-7 p.m.

Register for the ladies tennis league: Registration for the summer session of the B-CS Ladies Tennis League is open. Deadline to register is Monday.
